If you own a smart phone you know that there are applications for everything from losing weight to finding a good restaurant in which to eat. Did you know that there is a car service app called Uber? I know I had no idea until I began doing some research online. Yes there is a car service app that can help you get service when and where you need it.
The way the car service Uber app works is like this. Say you are walking down the street and you are really in need of a taxi but you cannot get one to stop for you. All you have to do is pull out your smart phone and type in the keyword Uber. You will then need to punch in your exact coordinates of where you are located and then all you will need to do is wait for the car service to come pick you up. You will not need to pay the drive of the car as per usual, you will just pay Uber a flat fee for the service and then Uber will pay the drive. This is really a cool thing if you ask me. Smart phones are going to be able to do so many more things for us in the years to come it is almost scary.
Ubers car service business is booming by a whopping 26 percent a month. It is now available in 18 cities.
This may sound like a wonderful thing and really it is, but the taxi and other legitimate car service companies are starting to get a little upset about how Uber is taking over their business. There is actually a law suit taking place now in which San Francisco taxi drivers have sued Uber. The California Public Utilities Commission has levied a fine against Uber as well in the amount of $20,000 for operating an unlicensed transportation business.
In DC however Uber is becoming more and more popular as bloggers are talking all about it and giving it rave reviews for being an awesome car service company. These people know that it is hard sometimes to get a cab late at night and even harder if you are a minority. This car service is helping those people who are having a hard time hailing a cab to get one by the use of the smart phone and making it so easy for them that they love it. How can a car service who is providing such a great service to its customers be bad? Uber didn’t lose the law suit that was filed against them, they actually came out victorious!
