The Volvo S80 was introduced to the market in 1998 as a replacement for the rear wheel drive, 960 series sedans. Unlike most Volvos, the first generation did not include a station wagon version. The S80 currently available near Rockford is the third generation and includes a station wagon.

The S80 was a departure from the traditional boxy style Volvos. The S80 styling includes a distinct beltline and curved taillights that narrow from bottom to top. This style has been adopted throughout the entire Volvo product range.

The S80 is very economical to operate, and, of course, holds true to Volvos intense focus on safety. The car is well equipped and is less costly than its midsize rivals are.

Trim Levels and Features

The Volvo S80 is the largest four-door, five-passenger sedan produced by the company. It is available in two trim levels, the Premier trim and Platinum trim.

The Premier trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, a keyless ignition and entry system. Also included as standard is dual-zone climate control, full leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, and more.

The Platinum trim adds xenon headlights, a folding front passenger seat, interior accent lighting, and a premium surround-sound audio system. Also included are front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, a lane departure warning system, and blind-spot monitoring.

Safety Features

Volvo is well known for its attention to safety. The S80 is no different. It has anti-lock brakes, a full complement of airbags, a low-speed collision warning system, and active front head restraints.

It should come as no surprise that the S80 earned the top rating in the IIHS crash tests. It also earned the top rating for whiplash protection in the event of a rear impact.

The Volvo S80 is a safe, well equipped, luxury automobile. McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington near Rockfordhas a fine selection of new and pre-owned Volvos. For details, visit https://www.mcgrathvolvocars.com.
